US Opposes New Plan , to Investigate Titanic Wreckage.
'USA Today' reports that the United States has
moved to prevent a planned expedition to recover
artifacts from the Titanic wreckage in 2024.
The government reportedly cited the ship's
designation as a revered burial site under
both federal law and international agreement. .
'USA Today' reports that RMS
Titanic Inc. has exclusive salvage
rights to the remains of the Titanic.
The company has organized an uncrewed
expedition intended to explore and
capture detailed photos of the ship. .
According to the government, RMST's plan
to enter and explore the ship's severed hull would
violate a British pact, in addition to violating federal law.
The government added that the remains of
the Titanic should be treated as a memorial to
the 1,500 people who died when it sank in 1912.
In June, the Titan submersible
imploded near the wreckage of the
Titanic, killing all five people aboard. .
RMST is not free to disregard
this validly enacted federal law,
yet that is its stated intent, U.S. lawyers, court documents, via NBC.
'USA Today' reports that RMST has
previously challenged the constitutionality of
the government interfering with its salvage rights.
According to RMST, only the U.S. District Court in
Norfolk, Virginia, holds jurisdiction over the wreckage, citing hundreds of years of maritime precedent.

Slave Revolt in Virginia.
August 21, 1831.
The insurrection occurred in
Southhampton County, Virginia. It was the
largest revolt of enslaved people in U.S. history.
Enslaved himself, Turner was educated and a minister.
He believed he had been called by God
to help others break the bonds of their enslavement.

Turner's enslaver, Joseph Travis, and his family.
The initial group of seven revolters rallied to nearly
a hundred, as Turner set off towards Jerusalem, VA. .

and then escape into the surrounding swamp. .
Before the state militia of 3,000 captured
and killed almost all of the insurrectionists,
60 people were killed in the revolt.
Turner eluded capture until October.
He was tried and hanged.
The revolt led to unknown numbers of lynchings,
as well as legislation prohibiting the education and assembly of the enslaved
