AG Garland details Minneapolis Police report: MPD officers disregarded safety of people in custody

U.S. Attorney Merrick Garland held a press briefing Friday to announce the Justice Departmentā€™s findings after a two-year probe into the Minneapolis Police Department.

Garland said Minneapolis police officers discharged firearms without first assessing a threat and failed to intervene to prevent ā€œunreasonable use of forceā€ by officer colleagues.

The federal investigation began in April 2021, one day after former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted for the 2020 murder of George Floyd.
