Luis Rubiales Kiss Controversy: Embattled coach steps down as Spain's football federation head
Luis Rubiales, the under fire football Chief, has finally resigned as the head of Spain’s football federation almost a month after he grabbed and kissed the midfielder Jenni Hermoso during the celebrations of the country’s victory in the Women’s World Cup, sparking fury, and a national and international debate on sexism.
Rubiales had initially attempted to brush off the controversy over the unsolicited kiss after the team’s 1-0 victory over England in Sydney.
He had dismissed critics of his actions as “idiots and Stupid people” as the incident provoked global outrage, led to his being provisionally suspended by FIFA, and prompted Hermoso to make a criminal complaint accusing him of Sexual assault.

U.S. President Donald Trump, 79, has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI)—a vein disorder causing blood to pool in the legs—after observers noted swelling during a FIFA event. The White House confirmed the condition is “benign and common,” especially among older adults. Tests ruled out more dangerous issues like deep vein thrombosis (DVT), heart failure, or kidney problems.
CVI affects roughly 5% of adults and becomes more prevalent with age, weight gain, or prolonged standing. Trump’s condition appears to be in an early stage, with no signs of ulcers or severe skin changes. Bruises on his hands were also explained as side effects of aspirin use and vigorous handshaking. He reportedly feels “no discomfort” and remains active. Experts stress that while CVI is chronic, it can be managed with compression therapy, lifestyle changes, and minor interventions.
