Brazil's President backtracks on his assurance of Putin not being arrested in next G20|Oneindia news
Just a day after Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva affirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be arrested if he attends the G-20 meeting in Brazil next year, he has now backtracked from his personal assurance.
He has now said that it would be up to the judiciary to decide this.
Furthermore, he also questioned Brazil’s membership in the United Nations war crimes court, saying that “emerging countries often sign things that are detrimental to them”.
Putin missed this year’s G20 gathering in New Delhi, avoiding possible political opprobrium and any risk of criminal detention under an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant.
President Putin's Victory Day address emphasised Russia's resilience and commitment to its armed forces amidst ongoing conflicts, including in Ukraine. However, this year's parade featured only one tank, symbolising Russia's military presence. Putin also criticised Western nations for colonial policies, while the parade showcased a display of nuclear warheads and various weapons systems. The event commemorated the victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, with over 300 cities participating in ceremonial parades across Russia.
