Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a third-person action-adventure video game developed and published by Ubisoft.
It was first released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2 console and later for the Nintendo GameCube, Xbox and PC, also receiving a 2D conversion for the Game Boy Advance portable and cell phone.
The game is the continuation of the Prince of Persia series, which was created by Jordan Mechner in 1989 with the title Prince of Persia.[citation needed] The Sands of Time, initially developed by Ubisoft Montreal, managed to transfer and expand the gameplay mechanics from the first game to the generation of 3D games successively, while a previous attempt, made by The Learning Company in 1999, titled Prince of Persia 3D, failed to meet critical acceptance standards.
