The U.N.
General Assembly voted overwhelmingly on December 12 to demand a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza in a strong demonstration of global support for ending the Israel-Hamas war.
The vote also shows the growing isolation of the United States and Israel.
The vote in the 193-member world body was 153 in favour, 10 against and 23 abstentions.
The support was higher than for an Oct.
27 resolution that called for a âhumanitarian truceâ leading to a cessation of hostilities, where the vote was 120-14 with 45 abstentions.
India was among the 153 members who voted in favour.
Gaza war has taken a deadly turn as Israeli warplanes launched a massive bombardment, flattening residential towers and killing at least 54 people in a single day. The strikes, part of the IDFâs intensified campaign, have left behind scenes of devastation, with families buried under rubble and entire neighborhoods reduced to ruins. The mounting civilian toll has sparked outrage across the region and renewed calls for an immediate ceasefire.
