The U.N.
General Assembly voted overwhelmingly on December 12 to demand a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza in a strong demonstration of global support for ending the Israel-Hamas war.
The vote also shows the growing isolation of the United States and Israel.
The vote in the 193-member world body was 153 in favour, 10 against and 23 abstentions.
The support was higher than for an Oct.
27 resolution that called for a “humanitarian truce” leading to a cessation of hostilities, where the vote was 120-14 with 45 abstentions.
India was among the 153 members who voted in favour.
The Gaza crisis has reached a horrifying new level. Overnight Israeli airstrikes killed 94 Palestinians, including 45 people waiting for humanitarian aid. Dozens were burned alive in tents in Muwasi, and 15 more were killed when a school sheltering displaced families was hit in Gaza City.
Since October 2023, Gaza’s Health Ministry reports over 57,000 Palestinians killed — more than half of them women and children. Over 90% of Gaza's 2.3 million people are now displaced, with hundreds of thousands facing starvation. The international community remains divided, as Israel has not commented on the latest wave of strikes.
Meanwhile, talks of a potential 60-day ceasefire continue with no resolution in sight. This is not just a war — it’s a humanitarian catastrophe.

Ahead of the United States' Independence Day celebrations, federal agencies have issued a serious warning about potential terrorist attacks, specifically from lone wolf actors. This elevated threat level is a direct consequence of escalating tensions in the Middle East, where the U.S. has become more involved in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict. The situation intensified after U.S. B-2 Spirit bombers conducted a major operation on June 22, dropping heavy bunker buster bombs on three of Iran's nuclear facilities in a strategic move to aid Israel.
In response to the potential for retaliatory attacks, security has been visibly bolstered across the country. New York Governor Kathy Hochul has identified lone wolves as the "greatest threat" to July 4th events, announcing an increased presence of State Police and the deployment of National Guard units at major transportation hubs, bridges, and tunnels throughout New York City.
