Films within the registry are picked for their "cultural, historic or aesthetic importance.".

Other popular films that were added to the registry include 'Lady and the Tramp,' 'Fame,' 'Desperately Seeking Susan,'.

'Terminator 2: Judgment Day,' 'Apollo 13,'.

The selections this year also include a "diverse group of films, filmmakers and Hollywood landmarks exploring the drama of history, social justice and reform, the experiences of immigrants and more," according to the Library of Congress.

The National Film Registry is meant to "preserve the nation's film heritage," 'USA Today' reports.

There are now 875 films in the registry.

There will be a television special hosted by Turner Classic Movies on Dec.

14 in which some of the new additions will be screened.
