Sir Ed Davey has reacted to the news that Michael Gove has stood down as an MP ahead of the election, saying: "It's very interesting that a lot of senior Tories in seats that we think we can win are standing down. I think they've seen both the local election results where we're doing really well in those areas and they're seeing the fact that lots of former Conservatives are switching to the Liberal Democrats."

The Liberal Democrats want to provide free school meals to all primary school children, in a manifesto pledge they said would be funded by a tax on share buybacks. The party said it would start by immediately extending the scheme to provide school meals to all 900,000 children living in poverty who currently miss out. Shadow defence secretary John Healey has ruled out raising taxes on working people. It comes as Rishi Sunak accused Labour of increasing taxes by £2,000 per family should they get into government.
