Several former members of the banned Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir have filed nomination papers to contest the Assembly polls in the Union Territory as independent candidates.

Although Jama’at cannot participate due to a government ban, interest was shown during the Lok Sabha elections if the ban were lifted.

Now, they are contesting independent, drawing criticism from opposition parties.
