Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed General Mykola Oleshchuk from his position as head of the Ukrainian Air Force following a public dispute related to a fatal F-16 jet crash.
The incident, which resulted in the death of pilot Aleksey ‘Moonfish’ Mes, has ignited a heated controversy between Oleshchuk and MP Mariana Bezuglaya from Zelenskyy’s ruling Servant of the People party.
Bezuglaya claimed that the jet was accidentally downed by a US-donated Patriot air defence system, a statement Oleshchuk vehemently denied, accusing her of undermining the military and aiding Russian propaganda.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has exposed Russia’s latest so-called “peace memorandum” as an outright ultimatum, stating Moscow demanded Ukraine recognize its occupation of Crimea and other regions, fully withdraw troops, and accept neutrality. The second round of Istanbul talks yielded humanitarian gains, like POW swaps, but no ceasefire. Zelensky vowed not to discuss sovereignty or concede territory. While Ukraine offered prisoner exchanges and EU/NATO alignment, Russia refused compromise. The U.S. remains frustrated with Moscow’s hardline stance amid ongoing war escalation.

Zelensky will resign and leave Ukraine, former Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov has predicted, citing what he described as a US-backed effort to remove the country’s leader. In a post on Telegram on Sunday, Azarov suggested that the decision to remove Zelensky from power “has already been made in the US” and that Washington has given the “go-ahead” for his ouster. He wrote that although the Ukrainian leader has support in Europe, it is unlikely to change anything and will “hardly help” him.
