The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating as Flight AI171 to London, was carrying 242 people, including 169 Indian nationals.
The disturbing footage shows thick plumes of black smoke rising from the mangled wreckage, with charred debris scattered across a wide area near the airport.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, battling flames and searching through the devastation.

An Air India incident was narrowly averted at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on July 21, 2025, when flight AI 2744, an Airbus A320 from Kochi, veered off the runway during heavy rainfall. The Air India incident occurred at 9:27 AM, as the aircraft briefly entered a muddy area near the runway but returned to the tarmac without getting stuck. While all passengers and crew were safe, three tyres burst and possible engine damage was reported. The Air India incident prompted activation of emergency response teams, and operations have shifted to the secondary runway as minor damage was sustained on the primary strip.

A chilling preliminary report by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) confirms that both engines of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner shut down seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, killing at least 270 people. The aircraft was airborne for just 32 seconds before slamming into buildings near BJ Medical College. Crucially, cockpit recordings capture a moment of confusion: one pilot asks, “Why did you cut off?” to which the other replies, “I didn’t.” Investigators found both fuel control switches had flipped from ‘RUN’ to ‘CUTOFF’, triggering total engine failure.
