Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2023 gets Parliament nod
The Rajya Sabha has passed the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2023, with important provisions to protect citizens' rights and curb the misuse of their digital data by online platforms. The legislation proposes a penalty of up to Rs 250 crore ($33.5m) on entities that mismanage or misuse individuals' data. An independent Data Protection Board will be created and appeal can be made to telecom tribunal TDSAT and the Supreme Court above this board.
