India, UK to hold next round of talks for free trade agreement in January

India and the UK will hold talks in January 2024 for the proposed free trade agreement (FTA) and bilateral investment treaty (BIT). The negotiations will focus on resolving issues such as duty cuts on electric vehicles and whiskey, the movement of professionals, and market access for goods and services. The UK is seeking a cut in import duties on goods like scotch whiskey and automobiles, while India wants greater access for skilled professionals and market access for goods. Bilateral trade between India and the UK increased to $20.36 billion in 2022-23.
