Friday, 29 December 2023 Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the state government has successfully freed 5,000 acres of land from illegal encroachment, specifically targeting the issue of 'land jihad'. This decision was made to improve the condition of the Himalayan state. The government has taken strong action against illegal structures on government land, with 3,793 such locations identified. Nainital district had the highest number of encroachments, followed by Haridwar district. The ongoing anti-encroachment drive has resulted in the demolition of around 500 'mazars' and 50 temples.
