'Insta destination' likely to see fewer Indian tourists, warn travel agencies

IndiaTimes Sunday, 7 January 2024
The backlash against Maldivian politicians' remarks about PM Narendra Modi's Lakshadweep trip may impact the island nation's appeal as an Insta-worthy destination. Indian tourists, who constituted the largest chunk of visitors to the Maldives last year, may reduce due to the controversy. Indian celebrities joining the boycott call or promoting alternative desi destinations like Lakshadweep could further affect the popularity of the Maldives. Visitors may hesitate to post their sunbathing-in-Maldives pictures online, potentially impacting the destination's image.
