How India's growing ties with Tibet and Taiwan are rattling China
Monday, 24 June 2024 India is enhancing its economic and technological collaboration with Taiwan, with a particular focus on the semiconductor industry. Taiwanese companies, including Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC) and Foxconn, are expanding their investments in India, especially in Gujarat. Meanwhile, India-China relations remain strained following the deadly 2020 border clashes, which resulted in the deaths of 24 soldiers. Both countries have since increased their military presence and infrastructure along the disputed border, further escalating tensions.
President Lai Ching-te marked one year in office with a powerful message: Taiwan wants peace with China—but not at the cost of realism or sovereignty. In his speech, Lai emphasized that only Taiwan’s people can determine the island’s future, calling for dialogue based on “reciprocal dignity.” China, however, rejected his offer, branding him a “Taiwan Strait crisis maker.” Amid rising tensions, Taiwan’s coastguard has reported security breaches from the mainland. Lai also noted progress in ongoing tariff talks with the U.S., signaling diplomatic engagement on multiple fronts.

China’s newest warship Qinzhou has completed a dramatic live-fire drill just days after joining the PLA Navy’s Southern Theater Command. The stealth frigate Type 054B, hull number 555, was seen in state media footage sinking a target using its main gun and close-in weapon system. This marks Beijing’s bold push to expand naval dominance in disputed waters. As tensions rise, military analysts say the ship’s firepower and far-seas capabilities fit China’s long-term strategy to control critical trade routes and deter rivals in the South China Sea.
