China, Philippines trade accusations over collision in South China Sea
Sunday, 22 October 2023 China and the Philippines are involved in a dispute over a collision in the South China Sea, where Chinese vessels blocked a Philippine boat supplying forces. The incident occurred near the disputed Second Thomas Shoal, where the Philippines has been sending supplies to troops stationed on a World War Two-era transport ship. The Philippines condemned China's "dangerous blocking maneuvers," while the United States expressed support for the Philippines. The Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled in 2016 that China's claims have no legal basis.
