Behind Yunus’ Many Provocations Aimed At India – OpEd
Friday, 2 May 2025 Why is Bangladesh interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus trying to frequently provoke India? Those who think he is doing it to try please both a domestic constituency -- the hardline Islamists -- and some important global actors -- US and China, Pakistan and the Islamic world -- may not be wrong, but don't miss the woods...

Indian garment exporters are facing a major tariff shock as the Trump administration imposes a steep 50 percent duty on Indian exports. The move directly impacts garment exporters, shoe manufacturers, and leather industries that heavily rely on the US market. With Indian garment exporters already working on razor-thin margins, this tariff threatens millions of jobs and billions in trade revenues. Competitors like Vietnam and Bangladesh could benefit, while Indian garment exporters brace for losses. The Modi government is expected to step in with relief measures as Indian garment exporters explore new markets and diversification strategies. Oneindia’s Pankaj Mishra explains.

In an unprecedented show of global consensus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Israel, Pakistan, and Cambodia have all backed U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Armenia’s Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijan’s Ilham Aliyev jointly credited Trump for brokering a landmark peace deal ending decades of conflict in the South Caucasus, calling him a “peacemaker.” The agreement includes a U.S.-controlled transit corridor — the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” — linking Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenia.
Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, Pakistan’s government, and Cambodia’s Hun Manet also nominated Trump, citing his role in defusing conflicts from the Middle East to South Asia. The White House hailed the deal as a setback for China, Russia, and Iran. With multiple nations — some rivals — rallying behind him, Trump’s Nobel push has become one of the most talked-about diplomatic developments of the year.

Mass protests erupted in Damascus as Syrian citizens gathered outside parliament, chanting “Stop killing our people” in a show of defiance against Israeli airstrikes and escalating sectarian violence.
The demonstration follows deadly Israeli strikes on the Syrian Army General Staff headquarters in Damascus, which Israel claims were a response to the government's failure to protect the Druze minority in Sweida. Protesters are calling for an end to both foreign intervention and internal bloodshed, demanding peace and accountability.
This comes as nearly 250 people have reportedly died in clashes between Syrian government forces, Islamist fighters, and Druze militias in recent days.
