After an all-party meeting with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal Aariz Aftab on April 16, the BJP leader Sawapan Dasgupta said that they have advised the Election Commission to balance robust democratic culture with safety norms. "We've advised the Election Commission to balance the need for a robust democratic culture with safety norms. It is up to the Election Commission to tell us what exactly political parties must do. We've assured them that we'll adhere to protocols," said Swapan Dasgupta.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has called an all-party meeting to ensure implementation of COVID-19 norms during election rallies. Meeting will be presided by Aariz Aftab, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal at Kolkata Circuit House on April 16.Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation also reached to attend the meeting. Actor Akshay Kumar, who is in Uttar Pradesh for shooting of his upcoming film 'Ram Setu', met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on March 18. After former chief minister Siddaramaiah refused for donation of Ram Temple, Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa said 'one Siddaramaiah is enough to destroy Congress party.' "One Siddaramaiah is enough to destroy Congress party. Similarly, HD Kumaraswamy is destroying his party. Even the poor are giving Rs 10 each (for Ram temple) out of devotion. Siddaramaiah says that it's disputed land, so he won't contribute," said Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa. He added, "PFI tells people to not contribute (for Ram Temple) as it's disputed land, Siddaramaiah says the same. They have the same opinion. There is no difference between Siddaramaiah and PFI, they are one."
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a pot shot at BJP by saying that wherever the party and its ideologue RSS go, hatred starts to intensify there. He said, "People of Assam say their history and culture are being attacked. Tamil Nadu and Bengal are facing the same thing." The fifth phase of assembly polls will be held in West Bengal on April 17.
