With the BJP set to retain power in six Gujarat municipal corporations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday termed the victory "very special" and said for a party that has been serving in a state for over two decades to record such a phenomenal win is noteworthy.
He said the results of municipal elections clearly show the unwavering faith people have in politics of development and good governance.
The BJP appeared on course to retain power in the six municipal corporations, winning 409 of the 474 seats where results were declared till evening.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the win reflects that BJP still has stronghold in Gujarat.
As Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat met top BJP leaders in Delhi amid speculation of revolt against him by state party MLAs, Uttarakhand BJP MLA Munna Singh Chauhan dismissed the rumours of "unhappiness over the CM", and said that Trivendra Singh Rawat continues to be the Chief Minister. Chauhan also clarified that there is no official legislature party meeting called for tomorrow.
Ahead of the Assembly Election in Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hired five helicopters for the party leaders' campaign. The saffron party is aiming to win 100 plus seats in Assam and has outscored the Congress and other parties in terms of choppers for the election campaign. The assembly polls in Assam will be held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6.
As the vaccination drive against COVID-19 is in full swing, around 100 saints at the Swaminarayan temple in Ahmedabad also received their shots on March 08. Interestingly, the jabs were given to the saints at the Swaminarayan temple where all the arrangements were done for the vaccination. Massive fire broke out at a scrap godown in Gujarat's Rakjot. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames after hours of efforts. No casualties have been reported. The reason of the fire has not been ascertained yet.
