Meeting at Sharad Pawar residence amid Maharashtra political crisis

Amid the political turmoil in Maharashtra in wake of allegations levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh against the state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, a meeting is underway at the residence of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on March 21.

Party leaders Praful Patel, Ajit Pawar, Jayant Patil and Supriya Sule are present at the meeting.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, Congress leader Kamal Nath also attended the meeting.

Earlier in the day, Sharad Pawar said that there will be no impact on Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

CBI files FIR against ex-Maha minister Anil Deshmukh over corruption allegation

CBI has booked former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh over corruption allegations. The probe agency also carried out searches at various locations in Mumbai on Saturday. Corruption charges against Deshmukh were levelled by ex-Mumbai top cop Param Bir Singh. CBI had carried out preliminary enquiry on Bombay HC orders to look into the allegations. Officials said CBI got enough prima facie material during enquiry to start a formal probe. CBI has registered an FIR against Deshmukh under the Prevention of Corruption Act. After lodging case, CBI started a search operation at a number of locations in Mumbai. On March 25, Param Bir Singh filed criminal PIL seeking a CBI probe against Deshmukh. Singh claimed Deshmukh had asked cops including suspended Sachin Waze to extort money. Singh had made the revelations after he was transferred as Mumbai Police Commissioner. Deshmukh, who is an NCP leader, resigned from the State cabinet on April 5.

"DCP told us that they received inputs that some exporters had 60,000 vials and wanted to verify the same. We showed them permission letter. He (DCP) said it wasn't communicated to them. Whatever happened was wrong," said Devendra Fadnavis.
