All India NR Congress (AINRC) president N Rangasamy took oath as the Chief Minister of Puducherry on May 07. The oath was administered by Puducherry Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. AINRC won 10 seats in Assembly elections while its ally BJP bagged six seats.
The third phase of COVID-19 vaccination is underway in the country. Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Tamilisai Soundararajan received her first shot of COVID-19 vaccine on Apr 02 at Rajiv Gandhi Government Women and Children's Hospital in Puducherry. Government of India has allowed anyone above 45 years to receive the vaccine jab without showing any medical certificate.
COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Tamil Nadu and in view of it, a two-week lockdown has been imposed in the state to contain the spread of infection. On May 10, streets in Coimbatore remained silent and deserted. However, all grocery shops will continue to work until 12 noon during the lockdown period. On May 09, TN Govt in its first meeting stressed on strict COVID-19 containment measures to rein in the virus. With 28,897 new COVID cases, Tamil Nadu reported highest-ever single day spike on May 09.
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin felicitated upon his arrival at the Secretariat. He chaired cabinet meeting on May 09. Oxygen demand and COVID-19 control methods are to be discussed in the meeting. As per MoHFW, Tamil Nadu has 1,39,401 active cases.
Petrol and diesel prices in the national capital stood at Rs 91.53 and Rs 82.06 per litre, respectively on May 10. The petrol prices were increased by 26 paise per litre and diesel by 33 paise in Delhi. Petrol prices witnessed a minor surge across country and differ from state to state depending on the incidence of value-added tax. In Mumbai, the price of petrol and diesel stood at Rs 97.86 and Rs 89.17 per litre respectively. The price of petrol and diesel in Chennai was Rs 93.38 and Rs 86.96 per litre respectively and Rs 91.66 and Rs 84.90 per litre in Kolkata.
Chennai Railway Police raised awareness about Covid-19 among citizens recently with a unique performance. The video of the same is being circulated on social media. Dressed in their uniform, wearing face masks and white gloves, the Railway Police recently danced at the Chennai Central Railway Station.

Aravind, a trained diver,dived 14 meters underwater with protective eye gear and worked out on the sea-bed. He said that people should work out and do breathing exercises for around 45 minutes every day.

With upsurge in country's COVID-19 cases, many organisations have come forward to offer their best during these tough times. Telangana's Calvary Temple has been converted into a COVID care centre. The 300-bed capacity centre was inaugurated by TRS leader and MLC K Kavitha. It is a highly equipped centre with oxygen support and has round the clock presence of doctors and nurses. The temple association is looking forward to further increase the bed capacity to 1,000 in coming days.

The AIADMK leader Thanga Kathiravan washed the clothes and even promised washing machines to locals if he wins the election.
