Live pets that were packaged into blind boxes and mailed across China were rescued by animal support officials.

In the video filmed in Chengdu, the local postal administration staff were checking the status of the live pets in the wrapped boxes.

Four animals were reported to have died.

It’s understood that the local Animal Rescue Centre received the report from local residents and rushed to the scene to stop the van that was about to leave with a bunch of blind boxes with live pets inside.

Volunteers found more than 160 cats and dogs inside the van.

At present, all the cats and dogs have been temporarily transferred to the local animal support centre for temporary resettlement.

According to the head of the Chengdu Love Home Animal Rescue Center, the pets will be put up for adoption.

The Chengdu Postal Administration said it has launched an investigation into the case of blind pet boxes that were illegally mailed by delivery companies and will launch a special investigation on live animals in the city's postal and express delivery industries.

The video was filmed on May 3 and provided by local media.
