Gender Recognition Bill: What is a Section 35 Order?
The Secretary of State for Scotland Alister Jack has now confirmed the UK government will issue a Section 35 order under the terms of the 1998 Scotland Act, to prevent the Scottish bill from receiving royal assent and becoming law.
But what is Section 35 of the 1998 Scotland Act and how does it make a provision for the UK goverment to veto a bill that has been passed by the Scottish government?

Reform UK’s Deputy Leader Richard Tice said it was a “remarkable” result for his party after they came third behind SNP and Scottish Labour who won the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-elections in a shock result. Tice also said he was “sad” to see party chair, Zia Yusuf, leave.

Scottish Labour Leader Anas Sarwar has hailed his party’s shock victory in the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-elections, saying the results sent a “clear message” from the Scottish people, who he says are “sick of the SNP” and “reject the poison of Farage”. Scottish Labour stunned the SNP to win the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election by just 602 votes, whilst Reform UK beat the Conservatives into third place, just 800 votes shy of the SNP in second.
