Spain Flash Flood: Heavy storm 'DANA' brings torrential rain and devastation to the country
3 people died have and one is missing after heavy rains lashed Spain, triggering flash floods that forced the closure of Madrid metro lines and high-speed rail links.
The weekend storm affected almost the whole country, with the heaviest rains recorded on Sunday in the coastal provinces of Cadiz, Tarragona and Castello, according to state weather office.
People sought refuge on the roofs of their homes in Toledo, which is 50 km southwest of Madrid.
Thousands stranded as power outage hits Iberian Peninsula
Emergency services handed out food, water and blankets to stranded travellers at Madrid’s Atocha station on Monday evening, after a widespread blackout brought much of Spain and Portugal to a standstill.
