Yvette Cooper said she is "really worried about" increasing levels of extremism amongst young people in the country.
Asked about the issue in the Home Affairs Committee, the home secretary said: "I see it in the kinds of cases that I'm briefed on, just increasing numbers of teenagers - where there are serious concerns."

The shadow business minister has claimed the government has "lost control" as record numbers of migrants crossed the channel this weekend. More than 1,100 migrants arrived in the UK after crossing the English Channel on Saturday, the highest number recorded so far in 2025. Yvette Cooper has said changes to the immigration system are expected to reduce visas by around 100,000 per year. The Home Secretary told the Commons: “The impact of the changes to skilled worker visas, care worker visas, settlements, students and English language is expected to reduce visas by a further around 100,000 a year, and in addition the new workforce strategy’s immigration skills charge, family and asylum reforms will further bring numbers down on top of that.

The Government has pledged £5 million for a renovation project in memory of the three young girls murdered in Southport.
