UK inflation jumps to 2.3% in October

UK inflation has risen to its highest level since April driven by an increase in household energy bills, according to official figures.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation rose to 2.3% for October, up from 1.7% in the previous month.

Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones said there was “more to do” to ease cost-of-living pressure.

Stride: Siddiq must go over corruption allegations

Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride has called for Prime Minister Starmer to sack Treasury minister Tulip Siddiq, arguing it is “impossible” for her to continue as anti-corruption minister while facing allegations linked to her aunt’s political movement in Bangladesh. Stride said, “If you’re in a Ministerial position, you have to be in a position to actually conduct the responsibilities for which you’re responsible, and I just don’t think in her case that that is any longer possible.” Report by Covellm. Farage calls for inquiry into grooming gangs at conference

Nigel Farage has renewed calls for a national inquiry into grooming gangs, criticising the Jay Review as inadequate. Speaking at Reform UK’s North West conference, he claimed a targeted investigation was needed into what he described as “deeply racist” crimes. Farage said grooming gangs, “predominantly of Pakistani origin,” targeted white working-class girls and that understanding the scale and motives of these crimes was crucial to stopping them.
