Using sim card trick, cybercrooks siphon off Rs 76k from bizman

IndiaTimes Monday, 13 November 2023
A businessman in Bengaluru was tricked by cybercrooks who claimed that a SIM card registered in his name was being used for illegal activities. The fraudsters posed as a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) official and convinced the victim to download remote-access applications on his phone. The victim realized that money was being siphoned off from his bank account and immediately contacted his bank, but the delay in blocking the account allowed the cybercriminals to make additional transactions. The police have registered a case under the IT Act and frozen the receiving bank account.
