Nine-time CPM MP Basudeb Acharia dies at 81

On Monday, Basudeb Acharia, an esteemed trade unionist and CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) leader, passed away in Hyderabad at the age of 81 due to age-related ailments. Born into a Bengali-Tamil family in Purulia in 1942, Acharia had a notable political career, representing Bankura as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha for nine consecutive terms from 1980 to 2014. CPM State Secretary Md Salim, in honoring the late leader, highlighted Acharia's contributions as a member of the CPM central committee and the CPM West Bengal state committee.
