Wednesday, 20 March 2024 The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka to investigate a complaint filed by the DMK against BJP leader and Union Minister of State, Shobha Karandlaje, for allegedly breaching the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Karandlaje had made controversial remarks linking people from Tamil Nadu to criminal activities during a protest in Bengaluru.

Polling in 102 parliamentary seats across 21 states and Union Territories in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections commenced at 7 am on April 19 and ended at 6 pm. Over 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and union territories headed to the polling booth on Friday, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal recorded the highest turnout till 5 PM at 77.57 per cent, followed by Tripura at 76.10 per cent. Voter turnout in Assam stood at 70.77 per cent, while Manipur recorded a voter turnout of 68.58 per cent till 5 PM.
