Mega Rs 62,700 crore deal for 'Prachand' attack choppers inked after CCS nod
Friday, 28 March 2025 India signed a Rs 62,700 crore contract with Hindustan Aeronautics to procure 156 indigenous 'Prachand' light combat helicopters for the Army and IAF, enhancing its combat capabilities. The helicopters, to be built at HAL factories, are equipped for high-altitude operations with 45% indigenous content, aiming for 65% by project end.
India has approved its biggest-ever defense deal, worth $7.3 billion, to procure 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) for the Indian Army and Air Force. These helicopters, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), are equipped to operate in extreme conditions, making them ideal for deployment in sensitive areas like the Siachen glacier and Eastern Ladakh. With advanced features such as the ability to take off and land at altitudes of 5,000 meters, these helicopters will significantly enhance India's military capabilities in the face of regional threats, particularly from China and Pakistan.

An Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar fighter jet crashed in Panchkula, Haryana, after taking off from Ambala airbase for a routine training sortie.
