Diamond-covered 'super Earth' Janssen intrigues scientists

IndiaTimes Friday, 27 October 2023
A 'super Earth' called 55 Cancri E, nicknamed 'Janssen', has attracted the attention of astronomers for its unique features. It is eight times the size of Earth and is covered in diamonds, but also has volatile conditions with intense heat on one hemisphere and permanent darkness on the other. Scientists theorize that the planet's growth and the burning off of its atmosphere contribute to its chaotic light signals. The planet's orbit is also significantly shorter than Earth's.
