Speaking to media in the national capital on January 15, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati spoke on occasion of her 65th birthday.
Mayawati said, "BSP will not forge any alliance with any political party for the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand." "The party will contest the elections in all Assembly constituencies on its own," she added.
President Kovind, PM Modi paid homage to BR Ambedkar on his 130th birth anniversary. PM Modi paid his tribute to Ambedkar while addressing the Association of Indian Universities. He also took to twitter saying Ambedkar gave a strong foundation to independent India. VP Venkaiah Naidu paid floral tribute to Ambedkar at his residence in Delhi. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also paid tribute to the Father of Indian Constitution. BSP supremo Mayawati remembered Ambedkar's legacy on his birth anniversary. DMK chief MK Stalin paid a floral tribute to BR Ambedkar at Koyambedu in Chennai. Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born on 14 April, 1891 in Mhow of Madhya Pradesh. Termed as the father of Indian constitution, he always worked for the welfare of deprived people. Ambedkar was conferred with Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1990.

Uttar Pradesh Police has arrived at Banda jail with gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari on April 07. UP Police had gone to Punjab's Rupnagar jail on April 06 to take the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA in its custody. On March 26th, the Supreme Court (SC) had ordered his transfer to UP jail and face trials there.
BSP chief Mayawati received her first jab of COVID-19 vaccine on March 13 at a private hospital in Lucknow. Mayawati appealed to the Centre and state government to provide free vaccine to the poor. She further urged people to follow the COVID protocols and get vaccinated.
Uttarakhand Director General of Police Ashok Kumar informed that after the 3rd Shahi Snan, half of the force has been withdrawn. "Big challenges of Maha Kumbh are over, now only a fewer routine work remains," said DGP Kumar. Kumbh Mela witnessed massive rush in 3rd Shahi Snan despite rising COVID-19 cases.
In Uttarakhand's Hardiwar, lakhs of devotees gathered at Hari Ki Pauri for Ganga Aarti. This comes at a time when the country is undergoing another Covid wave. Social distancing norms were flouted. In normal circumstances, Kumbh continues for nearly four months but this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the duration of the congregation has been curtailed to one month. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has defended the Kumbh Mela 2021 that is being held amid a surge of Covid cases in the country. Speaking to Hindustan Times’ Kumkum Chadha, Rawat said that people’s health is of prime importance and all steps have been taken to ensure that Covid precautions are followed. The Chief Minister’s defence comes as the government has been facing criticism for the Kumbh Mela which is happening at a time when the nation is going through its second peak.

Amid rising Covid cases, lakhs of devotees gathered at Haridwar for Mahakumbh. Devotees took a holy dip at Har Ki Pauri ghat on the occasion of third 'Shahi Snan’. IG Kumbh Mela Sanjay Gunjyal said that 6 lakh people arrived for ‘Baisakhi Snan’ this year. He added that the crowd was less compared to previous years. Har Ki Pauri ghat was then cleared for Sadhus of Niranjani Akhara. Clad in saffron Sadhus of Niranjani Akhara participated in third 'shahi snan' at Har ki Pauri ghat. The duration of the congregation has been curtailed to one month due to Covid-19 pandemic. Uttarakhand reported 1,925 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, informed health department. The residents of Vantangia villages, for the first time are casting their vote for the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat polls which commenced from April 15. These villages were declared revenue village by CM Yogi Adityanath in 2018. Polling of first phase will take place in 18 districts.
