Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the second Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg today. The event is being organised by the Sports Ministry in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council and the Winter Games Association of J&K. JandK government has organised a mesmerising night skiing event in Gulmarg district. Gulmarg is world famous ski and tourist resort in north Kashmir of JandK. It will see around 1200 athletes from different parts of the country participating in the second edition of the five-day long 'Khelo India Winter Games'. This event is advance exercise of 'Khelo India Winter Games' programme that will be started officially on February 26. It will attract skiing lovers from across the world. The event is conducted to promote adventure tourism and aimed at engaging the youth in positive and constructive activities. The games include snowshoe race, ice skating, ice hockey, skiing, nordic skiing, snowboarding, ski mountaineering and ice stock. The government has planned many cultural programs as part of the event besides setting up stalls of ethnic food and local crafts. 'Khelo India Winter Games' is being organised by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs And Sports in collaboration with the JandK Sports Council and the Winter Games Association of JandK. While speaking to media, MoS of Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry, Kiren Rijiju said, "We want to support our young generation for excellence in sports. We couldn't provide facilities in the past. We are bringing Khelo India here as the place is naturally gifted to organise winter games."
A woman gave birth to rare conjoined twin daughters with two heads and three hands at a private hospital in Odishaâs Kendrapara district. The newborns were shifted to Shishu Bhawan in Cuttack immediately as their health deteriorated. The very rare conjoined twins were born to a poor farmer family. This is the second child of the woman. Elephant calf rescued from 15 feet deep abandoned well with the help of heavy machine in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha on Apr 10.âThe calf accidently fell in to the well last night while it was roaming. We were informed of the movement of the elephant and we immediately rushed to the spot and rescued with the help of local fire department. We have been keeping eye on the movement of the calf,â said Rabi Narayan Mohanty, Range Officer.

Two youth accused of theft, taken to jail on foot from hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur on April 12. After producing in Court, police got them tested for COVID-19 in which one of the thieves tested positive. GRP official said, "Got them tested after producing in Court and one's report came positive. Our vehicle broke down hence we had to take them to jail on foot."
Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishvas Kailash Sarang on April 12 informed that 'Corona Curfew' has been imposed by Crisis Management Group in Bhopal from April 13 to April 19, with essential services running unhindered. Kailash Sarang said, "Today, Bhopal 'Crisis Management Group' has decided to impose 'Corona Curfew' in Bhopal, from April 13 to April 19, till 6 am. It means daily activities will continue. Inter-state and inter-district movement of essential services will be allowed." "Vaccination program, hospitals, petrol pump, bank, grocery shops ambulance, fire brigade, movement of labourers, agri-services, dine-in facilities... to be allowed. This is not a lockdown but 'Corona Curfew'," the minister added.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has defended the Kumbh Mela 2021 that is being held amid a surge of Covid cases in the country. Speaking to Hindustan Timesâ Kumkum Chadha, Rawat said that peopleâs health is of prime importance and all steps have been taken to ensure that Covid precautions are followed. The Chief Ministerâs defence comes as the government has been facing criticism for the Kumbh Mela which is happening at a time when the nation is going through its second peak.

Amid rising Covid cases, lakhs of devotees gathered at Haridwar for Mahakumbh. Devotees took a holy dip at Har Ki Pauri ghat on the occasion of third 'Shahi Snanâ. IG Kumbh Mela Sanjay Gunjyal said that 6 lakh people arrived for âBaisakhi Snanâ this year. He added that the crowd was less compared to previous years. Har Ki Pauri ghat was then cleared for Sadhus of Niranjani Akhara. Clad in saffron Sadhus of Niranjani Akhara participated in third 'shahi snan' at Har ki Pauri ghat. The duration of the congregation has been curtailed to one month due to Covid-19 pandemic. Uttarakhand reported 1,925 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, informed health department. The first bath was held on March 11 on the occasion of Mahashivratri, while the second took place on April 12. Haridwar remains heavily crowded, despite skyrocketing cases of COVID-19.
As India battles a second COVID wave, scores of devotees gathered at 'Har ki Pauri' in Uttarakhand's Haridwar on April 12 for the Ganga aarti. Large number of devotees offered prayers during the on-going Kumbh Mela. However, social distancing norms were flouted and several of the devotees were seen without masks. According to Kumbh Mela Police Control Room, a total of 31 lakh devotees have taken 'snan' in and around the Kumbh Mela area, till 6 pm today.
