Stone pelting during COVID-19 protocol enforcement drive in Bihar
A huge crowd comprising of students, pelted stones and vandalised vehicles and properties in Sasaram during COVID-19 protocol enforcement drive carried out by the police and local administration while trying to close a coaching institute.
"Lockdown was being followed but it's an involvement of director but no doubt it would enforce strictly," said Rohtas Magistrate Dharmendra Kumar.
"FIR has been registered against those who provoked the people for such incident during COVID 19 protocols enforcement drive carried out by Police and local administration.
The situation is under control now.
Magistrate is also present here," said Superitendent of Police, Ashish Bharti.
Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij has termed lockdown and stringent enforcement of guidelines as the two solutions to curb the spread of COVID-19. Vij, however, said the state government doesn't want to adopt the lockdown method, and thus want the restrictions imposed in the state to be enforced strictly. The Health Minister said the government is ready to face the dissatisfaction of the people over stringent actions, but cannot see heap of dead bodies due to COVID-19. Haryana on April 15 recorded its highest single day spike of 5858 new cases, pushing the active infection over 30,000.
Amid escalating cases of COVID-19 in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said lockdown is "not an option" but some restrictions will be put in place in the national capital which is reeling under the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic. "Lockdown is not an option, however, we will be putting some restrictions in place to contain the spread of the virus. We will release the restrictions in the coming few days. COVID centres are being rebuilt and some have already started functioning," he was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the chief minister's office. "We are currently in a comfortable position with reference to beds and ventilators. We will ensure that the people of Delhi stay safe, to the best of our abilities," he added. Bihar government has geared up and took several steps amid surge in coronavirus cases including converting Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) as a dedicated COVID facility. "We have increased beds in hospitals in view of surge in COVID cases. We have decided to make Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), a dedicated COVID facility. We are also increasing number of beds in PMCH, AIIMS, IGIMS and other medical colleges. Testing has also increased. District Control Units established for assistance to patients," said Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey to ANI.
Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar on April 15 took the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Patna. The vaccine was administered at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS). Bihar CM got the first jab of the vaccine on his 70th birthday on March 01.
Violence and vandalism were reported from Bihar's Sasaram on April 5. A mob reportedly indulged in arson and vandalism after police and local officials tried to enforce Covid protocol. The violence reportedly broke out when officials tried to shut down a coaching institute. Police said that some people instigated the crowd. Some people have been arrested. Scores of students in Bihar's Sasaram town clashed with police after they tried to enforce Covid-19 rules amid spiking cases. Police had arrived at coaching centres to make them abide by Covid protocols when students resorted to violence and jammed roads bringing traffic to a grinding halt in the town.

An ambulance caught fire outside a welding shop at Kineshwar Chauraha in Lucknow city on April 12. The ambulance was at the welding shop for repair. Oxygen cylinder blasted at the welding shop leading to the ambulance catching fire. Fire Tenders and Police reached the spot, and flames were brought in control. After alleged attack on his convoy in Cooch Behar's Sitalkuchi, West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh in a press conference claimed that vehicles returning from Mamata Banerjee's rally threatened BJP workers and created tension in the area by attacking them with bombs, sticks and stones. Explaining the incident, Dilip Ghosh said, "I was in Sitalkuchi, Cooch Behar for poll rally. While it was going on people returning in vehicles from Mamata Banerjee's rally were threatening our workers, showing them sticks, creating tension. Police beat up our workers amid this." "Later when our people started leaving, Police asked us to stop for a while. When I started leaving after all workers, Police left me and went away. I was then surrounded by hundreds of people who attacked us with sticks and bricks. I was injured, many vehicles were vandalised," Ghosh added.
