India in Reserve Bank's name should be replaced with Bharat: Himanta Biswa Sarma
Wednesday, 6 September 2023 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has suggested renaming institutions like the Reserve Bank of India to 'Reserve Bank of Bharat'. He believes that the word 'India' and practices associated with the British era are colonial hangovers that need to be changed. Sarma also dismissed Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's remark about Pakistan's founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah objecting to the name 'India', stating that the important factor is the name used by sages and saints, which is Bharat.
