Depression over Bay of Bengal likely to become low-intensity cyclone by Tuesday
Sunday, 22 October 2023 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that a depression over the Bay of Bengal may develop into a low-intensity cyclonic storm by October 24. The system is expected to intensify into a deep depression and move towards the Bangladesh-West Bengal coasts in the following days. The IMD has cautioned fishermen not to venture into the sea until October 25 and farmers to harvest matured paddy crops by October 23 due to the expected rainfall in coastal Odisha.
The deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal may intensify into a cyclone by Monday evening (October 23), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin. The cyclonic storm, after its formation, will be called 'Hamoon', a name given by Iran.
