Over 900 ghats prepared for Chhath, other arrangements will be made: Saurabh Bharadwaj
Tuesday, 14 November 2023 () Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj announced the preparation of over 900 Chhath ghats for the upcoming festival, ensuring tents, lighting, sound, and other amenities for devotees. The four-day Chhath Puja, starting on November 17, involves fasting and offering 'arghya' to the Sun God. Despite pollution concerns along the Yamuna river, the Delhi government aims to enhance devotees' experience. The festival, traditionally observed in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, attracts devotees in Delhi-NCR, prompting the creation of temporary ghats in parks and public spaces to facilitate the rituals.
Chhath Puja begins on the sixth day of the Kartik month, generally in October-November. Some people celebrate it in the month of Chaitra also (in April), which is called the Chaiti Chhath. Chhathi maiyya or Mother Chhathi, Sun's sister, is considered an exacting but generous deity. Women came together to celebrate the festival.
