Women's representation in Indian police falls short of 33% target: Home Ministry report
Tuesday, 5 December 2023 The percentage of women in the police force in India has increased from 5.87% in 2013 to 11.75% in 2022, but it is still far below the target of 33% set by the Union home ministry. As of January 2022, there are over 2.4 lakh women police personnel, with the majority serving as constables. The states with the highest number of women police personnel are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Gujarat, Delhi, and Rajasthan. The home ministry has issued advisories to increase the representation of women in the police force and create more women police stations.

Goldy Brar, the prime suspect in the Murder case of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has been fatally shot in the US, according to media reports. Polling in 102 parliamentary seats across 21 states and Union Territories in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections commenced at 7 am on April 19 and ended at 6 pm. Over 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and union territories headed to the polling booth on Friday, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal recorded the highest turnout till 5 PM at 77.57 per cent, followed by Tripura at 76.10 per cent. Voter turnout in Assam stood at 70.77 per cent, while Manipur recorded a voter turnout of 68.58 per cent till 5 PM.
