Monday, 20 May 2024 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe heatwave red alert for Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, predicting heatwave conditions to persist over the next five days in Northwest India. Delhi also faces a red alert with temperatures ranging from 28 to 44°C. Heatwave warnings extend to several other regions, including Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch.
Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was in the "moderate" category, with a reading of 109 at 4 pm, as reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). DNA
Heavy rains hit eastern Rajasthan, with lighter showers elsewhere, causing temperatures to drop by up to 4°C across the state. Dausa received the highest rainfall at 20 cm. A cyclonic circulation over north-west Uttar Pradesh is influencing the monsoon trough line, which now passes through Ganganagar and Jaipur. The Jaipur Meteorological Centre predicts continued rainfall in eastern Rajasthan and parts of Bikaner division for the next 4-5 days.
